My name is Bonnie Smith, and I teach 7th grade Language Arts and Writing. This will be my fifth year teaching at Tri-Valley Middle School. I am a graduate of The Ohio State University and hold a Bachelor of Science in Middle Childhood Education with a minor in Professional Writing. My husband, Tom, and I live in Newark with our two dogs, Sage and Buster. Tom is also an educator, and he teaches fourth and fifth grade in Hilliard. Over the summer, we spent a weekend in the Hocking Hills, traveled to Chicago and St. Louis, and went on our annual family trip to Lakeside/Marblehead. We also love to work on home improvement projects together, and accomplished a few of these over our break. I’m looking forward to starting the school year, and I can’t wait to meet this new group of students!
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that all students are capable learners, and it is my goal to help them reach their full potential. Success in reading and writing is achieved through daily practice. A lot of reading and writing will take place in our classroom, but in order to keep improving, students need to develop a habit of reading and writing at home. Language Arts is not boring; students should be able to choose independent reading books that appeal to their interests, and class activities should be innovative and engaging.
**Check ProgressBook often and let me know if you have any concerns**
During the school year, we will be using an Instagram account to document what goes on in our classroom. Follow @readersin116 for photos and videos of what we’re learning and the happenings in Room 116! Parents, you will have the opportunity to opt-out if you do not want your student featured on the account.
