Spring is here and it appears that the cancellations and delays for this school year may finally be over!  The date for our 2013 commencement is May 24 at 7:00 P.M. in Jack Anderson Stadium.  The last day of the school year for all students is May 23rd. I would like to extend a personal congratulations to all those graduating with the Class of 2013.  They have been outstanding representatives of Tri-Valley over the past 13 years as they excelled academically and in a host of extra-curricular venues.

It has been a wonderful school year and I have had the opportunity to watch many of our students achieve a great deal of academic success. Two of Mr. Stillwell’s (High School Science) students had an outstanding performance at the 30th Ohio Chemistry Contest sponsored by Ohio University. These students, both of whom have completed the AP Chemistry program at Tri-Valley, took first and third place. Brayden Dunn finished 3rd and received a $2000 scholarship along with a $50 cash prize. Nathan Cheney finished first and in addition to a $200 cash prize, received a full tuition scholarship renewable for an additional three years (four years of full tuition is worth over $40,000).  The TV High School quiz team won a regular season divisional championship and finished with a 5-0 regular season record. On Saturday, March 16th, the quiz team went on to win the MVL Tournament at Crooksville. Members of the team were Ryan Hetrick, Brayden Dunn, Nathan Cheney, Chris Tolisano and Austin Wheeler, Mary Weidig, David Weber, Deanna Mateja and Daniel Chen. The quiz team advisor is Mr. Troy Archer. I also would like to recognize our Franklin Walter Award winner, Dalton Flanagan (Senior)  who was recognized by the MVESC on March 13th along with Seth Miller (Senior) who nominated and presented the outstanding educator award to Mr. Kenton Stillwell.

I would like to recognize and publicly thank a few of our staff members who have announced their retirement at the conclusion of this school year. They include the following:

Ray Rotella                   High School English

John Taylor Lehman      High School Science

Susan Scott                  Middle School Guidance

Elaine Ross                  Dresden Elementary Third Grade

Jim Mayercak                Dresden Elementary Music

Mary Wright                  Middle School Intervention

Renee Spiker                Middle School Title I

Linda Moran                  Middle School Secretary

Barb Mender                 District Office Secretary

Lynn Untied                   Title I Frazeysburg

Jean Lahna                   District Curriculum Coordinator

It is the time of the year when the Ohio Achievement tests are administered to all students in grades 3-8. Our students and teachers have worked hard all year in preparation for these tests.  Sophomore students have already completed the Ohio Graduation Tests and we are expecting results in early May. We are looking forward to their success.

The first day of the 2013-14 school year will be on August 21, 2013.  We have already begun planning, scheduling, and ordering supplies for next year. Kindergarten screening is underway and dates and times for these screenings are available on the school website.  Please take the time to look over the school website if you have not done so lately.  We have continued to put more information online to assist parents and students in obtaining necessary information when they need it.

Have a Great Spring Season…
