The Tri-Valley Food Service Department consists of 6 Head Cooks and 26 Assistant Cooks operating at 6 on-site preparation kitchens. The cafeterias serve on average 325 breakfasts and 1,875 lunches daily. The Department provides wholesome appetizing food choices for the students and employees in the district at a reasonable cost. These choices contribute to the good nutrition that's so vital to both mental and physical growth of students. The Department operates just like a business. All costs, including salaries, benefits, food purchases, utilities, etc. associated with the Food Service Department are paid for by the money collected from students, staff, and federal reimbursement from the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program.

The National School Lunch Program

The United States Congress created the school lunch program in 1946 in the belief that “as a measure of national security, to safeguard the health and well-being of the Nation's children and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious agricultural commodities and other food, by assisting the States, through grants-in aid and other means, in providing an adequate supply of food and other facilities for the establishment, maintenance, operation and expansion of nonprofit school lunch programs.”

Parents who would like to apply for free or reduced meals for their children can simply download an application from the link located on this page or they can pick up an application from any school office. Applications and meal status of our students are strictly confidential.

All Tri-Valley School cafeterias use a computerized cash register system that replaces the traditional cash registers. The system allows students to pay in advance for meals and/or ala carte foods (juice drinks, snacks, etc.) if they choose to do so. The system works with a twelve key PIN pad located near the end of the serving line that is similar to an automated teller machine (ATM). This system is very secure and confidential. It requires all students to enter a 4 digit personal identification number (PIN) to access their account and their picture is displayed to assure proper account identification. There is no distinction between a student who has money on their account and a student who receives a free meal. All students have an established account, although they not required to make advance payments because the system still has the ability to act as a cash register and can accept cash payments on a daily basis.

Parents can access their student's meal account balance by calling (740)754-4050, press Option 6.
